The Sparks Class Schedule And Other Info

Get it while you can, that is unless you have your tin cans and miles of string already set up.

Communications Workshop Schedule

      • April 2-3, 2016 – Riverton, Wyoming
      • August 6-7, 2016 – Dubois, Wyoming

The cost of the workshop is $100 for non-residents of Wyoming. A slot can be reserved with a non-refundable $25 deposit, with the balance due no later than 30 days before the workshop date.  The following forms of payment are accepted:

Paypal – Click here to pay via Paypal.

Cash or payee blank USPS Money Order sent to:

TAC Enterprises LLC
PO Box 1351
Riverton, WY 82501

Residents of Wyoming can pay on an “as you can afford” basis in either FRNs, precious metals, or barter (ammo, field gear. et. al.) Contact <> for more info and to reserve a slot.

The two-day workshop will cover the basics of grid-down/resilient communications systems, and communications monitoring focused on local VHF/UHF systems.  Attendees should have read the book prior to the class and have a nominal communications kit assembled, in particular communications monitoring equipment (police scanner and shortwave receiver).

Topics to be discussed will include:

  • Considerations for Grid-Down/Resilient Communications
  • Equipment Selection
    • Radios
    • Antennas
    • Basic Off-Grid Electric Power
    • Basic Test Equipment
  • VHF/UHF Communications Monitoring
    • Equipment Selection
    • Low-Level Voice Intercept Operations
    • Basic Radio Direction Finding

Pack a lunch, water, and toilet paper.  The facilities in Wyoming are primitive, and far from civilization.  There are places in Dubois and Riverton where you can get a sandwich, or something for the BBQ grill.  Speaking of which….

There will be a BBQ grill available for those of you who want to cook something hot.

Dinner will be provided Saturday Night, as long as you like steak and potatoes off the grill.  BYOB if you want something with a little kick to it.

There will be a swap meet in the rendezvous style during the workshop. Bring your trade goods.

Try to take a few extra days to do the tourist thing.  Both Cody (Buffalo Bill Museum) and Jackson Hole are right down the road (by Wyoming standards).

Of course this will all be around forever, so you guys just take your time getting to it….Isn’t March Madness or some such pablum coming up? SQUIRREL!!!!!!

  1. Sparks … the chicken farmer, goat herder, cow tender, horse raping hillbilly with enough antenna’s strung around his place to make it look like a Faraday cage that lives just North of me? That Sparks? Yup I know him and I plan on being there. He knows things. He can fix things and best of all he can design things. But be wary, he does not take well to stupid. Not sure what he feeds the hogs, but they are damn big for just eating grain. Plus he is getting better with that 45 Colt wheel gun of his. If you want to know things regarding communications, electronics, surveillance plus more he is the man to see. And Wyoming is not primitive. WTF. We have some of the best outhouses in the country and just because we go to family reunions to meet girls does not mean a damn thing. Good times. LP
